SUMMARY:E3FPLE : Challenges in Evaluating Educative Experiences of Fle
 xible and Personal Learning Environments
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Title:\nChallenges in Evaluating Educative Experi
ences of Flexible and Personal Learning Environments (E3FPLE) in conj
 unction with ECTEL 2011 ((http://www.ec-tel.eu/)\n \nGOALS & RESEARCH
QUESTIONS\n \nE3FPLE aims to offer an interdisciplinary arena to inv
estigate the complexity that will characterize more and more the evalu
ation of future educative experiences (see lso workshop background). T
he major challenges are to identify and operationalize relevant qualit
ies of such experiences, and to model and monitor their trajectories.
The overarching goal is to inform the development of effective support
s to enhance educative experiences of the stakeholders involved.\nAcco
rdingly the workshops intends to explore the following research\nquest
ions:\n \n· Whether and how the existing evaluation methods from the
field of Technology-enhanced Learning (TEL) and Human-computer Intera
ction (HCI) should be extended to address specific requirements of FPL
Es?\n \n· Whether and how compartmentalize the respective impact of
software quality (i.e. interoperability), interaction quality (i.e. us
ability and user experience with individual widgets and their orchestr
ation), information quality (i.e. contents delivered by widgets and th
eir integration), and personal quality (i.e. individual goals, value a
nd\nexpertise) on educative experiences?\n \n· Which experiential qu
alities are relevant to successful educative processes in FPLEs? Are h
edonic qualities such as identification, stimulation and evocation par
ticularly relevant? Should the learner experience certain negative emo
tional responses (e.g. challenge, tension,\nbewildered) or, in contras
t,positive ones to achieve a stronger learning effect?\n \n· How sho
uld the interplay between experiential evaluation feedback and redesig
n of the learning environments be enhanced? In which ways should the e
valuation feedback be collected and presented (qualitative vs.\nquanti
tative; level of granularity; monomodal vs. multimodal) to the design
and development team to improve the uptake of evaluation results?\n \
nIn the Workshop, these and other questions arising from the workshop
submissions and discussions will be addressed. Submissions addressing
the above listed and other related questions/ideas are invited.\n \nW
